Story of Our Journey
Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd has been entrusted by the Sarawak Government to transform the public road transport system in major urban areas.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), Sarawak Metro’s aim is to provide urban commuters a safe and reliable mode of travel that is also more convenient, comfortable and environmentally friendly.
Sarawak Metro is currently implementing the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project – which is under the purview of Ministry of Transport Sarawak – to minimise traffic congestion, as well as spur greater productivity and economic growth.
The hydrogen powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) will be the backbone of the KUTS and it will be complemented by Sarawak Metro’s network of feeder buses that will provide the ‘First and Last Mile Connectivity’ for commuters in Greater Kuching.

Alexius Barieng
Director,
Corporate Communication, SEED Programme & Bumiputera Relations
Alexius Barieng has more than 20 years’ experience in the media, publishing and communication industry. He has worked on numerous public relations projects for organisations in the public and private sectors as well as for NGOs.
He joined Sarawak Metro in February 2020 and oversees its communication strategy. He is also responsible for the implementation of the Socio-Economic Enhancement Development (SEED) Programme and ensuring the meaningful participation of local Bumiputera companies in the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project.

Bibi Waheeda Binti Arman Khan
Director,
Legal & Company Secretary
Bibi Waheeda binti Arman Khan joined Sarawak Metro in January 2020, bringing with her 13 years’ experience in legal practise after having worked in the Federal capital and in Sarawak.
Prior to joining Sarawak Metro, she was a partner in one of the most reputable law firms in Malaysia. She also has vast experience in corporate law especially in construction contracts involving infrastructure projects.

Farhan Bin Fozian
Director
Land Management & Business Development
Farhan bin Fozian has more than 11 years’ experience in cost control, contract & commercial as well procurement, in the railway and oil & gas industries.
He joined Sarawak Metro in September 2020 and his responsibility is to manage the procurement and contracting strategy for KUTS project.

Capt. (R) Haji Omar Bin Husin
Director,
Quality, Safety, Health & Environment
Captain (R) Omar Bin Husin has 25 years’ experience in Safety, Health, Environment and Traffic Management in major urban rail and railway development projects in Malaysia and internationally. Some of the notable railway developments that he has been involved in include the LRT Line 2, LRT Line 3 and MRT projects. He has also been involved in commercial and residential property development projects in Malaysia and internationally.
He joined Sarawak Metro in January 2023 and as Director of Quality, Safety, Health and Environment manages the Company’s Management System (policies, manual and procedure), and oversees the implementation of quality, safety, health and environmental measures on the Company’s activities and projects.

Prabu Ganesh A/L Subramaniam
Deputy Project Director,
KUTS
Prabu Ganesh A/L Subramaniam has more than 10 years’ experience as an engineer, working on various mega rail projects in Malaysia including the LRT3, MRT1 and Ipoh-Padang Besar Electrified Double Track Project.
He joined Sarawak Metro in March 2020 and is responsible to plan and organise the company’s project implementation as well as to track the successful delivery of both short- and long-term goals of the project.

Haji Nor Nasyriq Bin Syahirudin
Deputy Project Director,
KUTS
Nor Nasyriq bin Shahirudin has more than 14 years’ experience in the railway industry, working both in Malaysia and overseas.
In Malaysia, he was involved in the MRT1, MRT2 and LRT3 projects. He has also worked in Qatar on the Doha International Airport project.
He joined Sarawak Metro in October 2020 and his responsibility is to lead the project team as well as collaborate with the project partners in ensuring the smooth and successful implementation of the KUTS project.

Henry Anak Mayot
Head of Department,
Systems
Henry Mayot has more than 25 years’ experience in telecommunication with project in Malaysia and abroad such as Indonesia, Australia, Taiwan, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Island, Samoa and Nepal.
Before joining Sarawak Metro in March 2020, he was in the system design team in railway project MRT1 and MRT2 in Kelang Valley, West Malaysia.
In Sarawak Metro he is responsible to oversee the implementation of the KUTS project particularly in managing the communication system for the ART system.

Rosli Bin Ahmad
Head of Department,
Environmental, Social & Governance
Rosli Bin Ahmad has vast experience in managing Health, Safety, Environment, Traffic Management and Security in various industries for more than 25 years.
His experience includes working on projects in marine propulsion engineering, heavy industries, power plant operation and maintenance, power plant construction and commissioning, oil and gas fabrication yards, offshore HSE operation, floating LNG vessel construction and commissioning and mass rapid transit construction and commissioning.
Apart from Malaysia, he was worked on projects in Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Algiers in Northern Africa, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea and China.
He joined Sarawak Metro in January 2022.

Ts. Haji Nor Adami Bin Mat
Head of Department, Construction
Ts. Nor Adami Bin Mat has more than 28 years’ experience in highway/bridge and 4 years in railway industries. His major participation was at Penang Second Bridge, highway construction at Java, Indonesia and recently at Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak.
He is entrusted as main role in managing the construction of MRT Line 1 Station and KTMB railway rehabilitation at Klang Valley.
He joined Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd as Head of Department to oversees the planning, establishing construction methodology, managing and monitoring the construction
of Kuching Urban Transport System(KUTS) for ART project for Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Infra activities until to the successfully project completion and deliverable.

Mohamed Kamal Bin Suhaimi
Mohamed Kamal worked in several organizations during his career of more than thirty (30+) years mainly in the design offices. He spent most of his career in project management of heavy railway and rail transit systems. He was also involved in design management for highway, buildings, and infrastructure projects. His last employment was with Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) as the Head of Infrastructure Design for East Coast Railway Line (ECRL).
Key Achievements:
- Involved in the design and construction of major railway projects such as ECRL, Ampang & Kelana Jaya Lines LRT Extension, Ipoh-Padang Besar Double Track, Batu Gajah Railway Development, Ipoh-Rawang Double Track, Sentul - Batu Caves Double Track, Light Rail Transit System Two.
- Received letter of appreciation from the Managing Director of UEM Group for his contribution to complete UEM Academy Complex in Petaling Jaya within six (6) months.
- More than ten years of experience in the design of various Infrastructure, civil and structure works with several consultants.

Jane Ah Guan
Head of Department, Strategic Human Resources
Jane Deidre Ah Guan brings with her 22 years of experience and exposure in the field of Human Resource Training and Development as well as Administration Management in the Healthcare Industry (Healthcare Facility Management involving government hospitals in East Malaysia) and 4 years within the Construction Industry.
Before joining Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, she was with Propel Johnson Controls (M) Sdn Bhd before joining Faber Medi Serve (M) Sdn Bhd and later under UEM Edgenta (M) Sdn Bhd, all in the field of Human Resource Development and Management for a total 16 years and another 5 years in the similar field with One Medicare Sdn Bhd.
In Sarawak Metro she will be responsible for our Strategic Human Resources Department mainly in the organizational development functions in the company.

Ts. Adnan Zulkifli, PMP®
Head Of Department, Planning
Adnan began his career as project planner back in 2010 after obtaining a bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from UiTM Shah Alam.
With more than a decade of experience as a project planner, Adnan has participated in many mega railway projects in Malaysia particularly in Railway System Works.
His experience and knowledge enabled him to lead and coordinate the development of the KUTS Phase 1 Employer's Requirement back in 2020 since joining Sarawak Metro in September of the same year.

Chew Yueh Chin
Head Of Department, Interface
Chew Yueh Chin has more than 19 years’ experience in railway and engineering industry, in Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore. He has been involved in railway projects (project management, technical management, system designs, Interface & integration management and construction management), telecommunication systems, SCADA & ISCS systems, UPS, OCC, Audio-Visual-Control & Lighting System, broadcasting as well as building M&E services.
He joined Sarawak Metro in March 2022 and he is entrusted lead the Interface and Integration unit to manage the interfaces between Systems to Infrastructures and System to Systems enabling smooth system integration of KUTS project.

Mijun Nasin
Head of Department, Quality, Safety, Security, Health, Environment and Traffic Management
Mijun brings 37 years of extensive experience in Process Safety, Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment, covering both production operations, maintenance, and construction while serving in various leadership roles throughout his career. His knowledge and skills are highlighted by 37 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, where he has effectively guided teams in implementing successful safety protocols, fostering a culture of safety and compliance, enhancing operational efficiencies, and ensuring that organizational goals and employee well-being are safeguarded.
He joined SMSB in Feb 2024.

Khairul Shahrir Bin Hashim
Head of Department, System Assurance & Requirements
Ts. Khairul Shahrir bin Hashim has more than 17 years’ experience in the railway and engineering industry, in numerous projects in Malaysia as well as in Middle East. He is a System Engineering Professional known for his specialization in railway engineering (project and construction management) including in system assurance (system safety, RAM (reliability, availability & maintainability), requirement management, EMC management, configuration management etc), technical & design management, interface & integration, cybersecurity management and system implementation for various railway systems.
He joined Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd since December 2020 and as the Head of Department of System Assurance & Requirements (SAR), he is responsible to ensure systematic compliance that are safe, secured and reliable for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project.

Sr. Laura Awang Banyie
Head of Department, Land Management
Sr Laura Awang Banyie has over 15 years of experience in the property industry mainly in valuation, market and feasibility study, and market research for oil palm plantation, project development, commercial building such as purpose-built office building, hotel and shopping mall, factory/ warehouses, for the purpose of bank loan, management reporting, accounting, RPGT, land acquisition, foreclosure and rating.
She is a Member of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia.
She joined Sarawak Metro in 2020.

Muhamad Burhanordin Bin Haji Ismail
Head of Department, Operations & Maintenance
Muhamad Burhanordin has over 30 years of experience in railway operations, encompassing intercity, freight, commuter, and metro train systems. He has successfully led rail projects across Malaysia as well as internationally, including the Al Mashaeer Al Mugaddassah Metro in Saudi Arabia. His professional development includes on-the-job training with East Japan Railway Company and Pakistan Railways, further strengthening his operational and technical expertise. His career spans large-scale operations, infrastructure readiness, emergency response planning, and stakeholder coordination, with a consistent focus on safety, service reliability, and regulatory compliance.
He joined Sarawak Metro in 2022 and is currently serving as the Acting Head of Operations & Maintenance, where he leads the department responsible for the Kuching Urban Transport System (KUTS). In this role, he oversees operational planning, system design review, and the integration of Operations & Maintenance requirements across the KUTS project. His scope includes Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) subsystems, hydrogen bus (H2B) operations and maintenance, depot facilities, and the Operations Control Centre (OCC), ensuring system readiness for future revenue service.
